Summary
Growing up, my fascination with cars was undeniable, and I eagerly anticipated the day I would have my own to tinker with and modify. At 14, I found my perfect project car: a 1971 Volkswagen Type 3 Fastback. This classic vehicle, with its flat 4-cylinder naturally aspirated dual carburetor engine, rear-wheel drive, and lightweight four-speed manual transmission, became my passion project. Working on this car taught me invaluable lessons in patience and problem-solving. Over the years, I tackled various repairs, from wiring and gaskets to fuel lines, and eventually undertook a complete engine replacement with assistance. This experience deepened my understanding of the unique "pancake" engine and significantly enhanced my mechanical skills. Displaying the Fastback at car shows has been incredibly rewarding, and I continue to work on its restoration. This project car not only showcases my dedication to mechanics and engineering but also symbolizes my commitment to achieving my future goal to do a complete restoration.
